About Four Oh Club

Four Oh Club is an independent pickleball gear review site with one organizing idea: there is no single best paddle, only a best paddle for your level. So we sort everything — paddles, shoes, balls, bags and sets — by whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or an advanced player, and we pick for the one you are actually at.

Who writes this

Everything here is written by Stephen V., framed honestly as an enthusiast — someone who is genuinely into pickleball gear, reads the manuals, compiles the published specs, and does the math. That is the whole claim. You will not find a made-up DUPR rating, a coaching title, or “20 years of experience” anywhere on this site, because inventing a credential for a real person is exactly the kind of thing we built this site to avoid.

What this site is

A curated, transparent guide to pickleball gear. Every roundup ranks specific products on a published rubric, weighted differently for each skill tier, with live, date-stamped prices pulled from Amazon. When the cheaper paddle is the better buy, we say so — even though the more expensive one would pay us more.

What this site is not

It is not a testing lab. We have not physically playtested twenty paddles over six months, and we are not going to write “in our testing” as though we had. It is not a court finder, a community app, or a place to book games. And it is not sponsored: no brand pays us for placement, no manufacturer sends us gear, and no commission rate has ever changed a ranking.
